My first love ended about ten months ago. We were in a long-distance relationship. I am a freshman in college, and he in a junior. He was going to transfer to the college I am at in August, but he broke up with me in February after finding out he couldn’t afford it. He’s in Arizona, and I’m in Kansas. I was crushed and heartbroken, and I was struggling with depression during that time as well. He was my first love, and I feel like our relationship is a should-have, could-have, would-have type of situation.
It took my a very long time to get over him, and sometimes, it still kind of hurts.
Now I’m dating a new guy, Scott, who goes to my college. He’s so sweet, and I love him dearly.
The thing is, he tells me he loves me all the time, and the other night we were snuggling and flirting in my bed, and he said, “Rachel Jean Keith (my full name), I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Patrick, my first love, said that to me too, and we wound up breaking up.
Because of that, his face came to my mind immediately.
Has that ever happened to you?
How can I stop thinking about the breakup and worrying every time Scott says something like that?
